Role organisation and Planning team strategies

Teamwork requires organisation, strategies and coordination. At every level of designing a multi-agent system, it is important to support these properties to build eeective teams. A team approach has the advantage of reducing the complexity of the task through distribution of responsibilities resulting in better utilisation of resources, robust behaviour, and providing more options against competitors. In this paper, a methodology for building teams of responsible agents using roles and team plans is described. Its application to the domain of soccer is used to design a high performance team of soccer agents. The architecture for these agents utilise a reactive system with support for teamwork. The team of soccer agents will be tested in a series of competitions against other teams in the real-time soccer simulator proposed for Robocup'97 which provides an uncertain, resource bounded world.
